Immediate hypersensitivity occurs as an allergic reaction to an inhalant, something in your dog's environment or food. It manifests itself in an intense, itchy rash, called hives, or urticaria. The allergic reaction causes red, swollen areas to appear on your dog within minutes or hours. The hives are usually on his legs, eyelids, neck, back or flanks. If hives occur from a bee sting, your precious pet may experience swelling around his face and lips, resulting in anaphylaxis, which can lead to death. As soon as you see hives on your dog, get him to the veterinarian immediately to determine the course of treatment, which may be antihistamine or corticosteroid injections.

Tucker has always eaten Science Diet food and has been fairly healthy…he does have PRA which is hereditary where he has gone blind. He started vomiting so I took him to his vet and found out he was dehydrated and have high liver count. He’s been there over night two times and the vet has put him on Science Diet LD and Denosyl and another chewable tablet. He eats it fine and has gotten better. The problem i am having is when I take him outside…he finds anything he can to eat. Is he not getting enough to fill his belly from eating this food?

Similarly to humans, a dog’s skin will often break out in raised, circular lumps and bumps, “But the reaction can become more severe if left untreated and could lead to a dog’s throat closing,” Werber hives are so itchy, your dog may begin scratching excessively, which can also make the reaction worse. “The more the animals is reacting, the more they start scratching themselves and contribute to the trauma of the skin,” Werber says. “Think of it as getting terrible mosquito bites then scratching them all at once—it makes it worse than the bite was in the first place.”
